Exercise Thresholds

Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology & Rehabilitation Science Deadline: Dec 31, 2023 None

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Are ages 18-50
  • Aerobically trained males and females (an average of 150 or more minutes of moderate to vigorous aerobic running or cycling per week for the past 6 months)
  • Are willing to come in for all testing visits
  • No known cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, muscular, and/or coronary heart disease
  • No current injury that would limit the ability to exercise on a stationary bike
  • Do not regularly use prescription medication other than birth control
  • Are not seeking medical care for a condition that would alter the response to exercise
  • Not currently pregnant

TMG and pressure algometry: Assessing the Effects of an Acute Bout of Kettlebell Swings on Muscle sensitivity and Pressure Pain Threshold

  • Participant is a male or female between the ages of 18 and 35 years old
  • Participant is asymptomatic for low back pain

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Are a recreationally active man (i.e. participating in moderate aerobic physical activity for a minimum of 30 minutes on five days per week OR vigorous aerobic activity for a minimum of 20 minutes on three days per week)
  • Are between the ages of 18-35 years old
  • Have no physical limitations preventing running, countermovement jump (jumping upwards in place), and strength assessments
  • Healthy as determined by the PAR-Q+ and Health History Questionnaire

Acute Effects of Resistance Exercise Among Individuals with MS

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Individual between the ages of 18 to 58
  • Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis
  • Are able to walk 10 meters without assistance
  • Are willing to come in for all 4 visits
  • No other known cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, muscular, and/or coronary heart disease
  • No Multiple Sclerosis relapse in the past 30 days
  • Are not currently undergoing a rehabilitation protocol
  • Are not currently seeking medical care for a chronic condition that could limit exercise capacity other than multiple sclerosis
  • Are not currently pregnant

Brain Stimulation: Active Motor Threshold

Athletic Training, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Exercise Physiology & Rehabilitation Science Deadline: Jun 30, 2024 Paid

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Healthy adult aged 18-30, with a body mass index between 18.5-35.0 kg/m2
  • Willingness to comply with exercise, caffeine, and alcohol requirements.
  • Willingness to perform maximal strength testing and undergo brain stimulation.
  • Have no other major underlying health concerns and circumstances as described in the pre-enrollment health screen administered before enrollment.

  • Male between the ages of 18-45 years old
  • Healthy as determined by the PAR-Q+
  • At least recreationally active (3 or more days a week)
  • English speaking

Part 2

  • Male between the ages of 18-45 years old
  • Healthy as determined by the PAR-Q+
  • English speaking
  • At least recreationally active (3 or more days a week)
  • Jiu jitsu practitioners with greater than 2 years of jiu jitsu experience OR holding a blue belt or higher in jiu jitsu
