Faculty and Staff

Hsiu-Fen Lin, Ph.D., MSW, is an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida in the School of Social Work and a member of the Violence Against Women faculty cluster. With over 10 years of postgraduate international social work practice experience, Hsiu-Fen continues to seek solutions to end domestic violence by addressing research and policy. As her research focuses on violence against women and their financial well-being and mental health, Hsiu-Fen is committed to advocating economic justice to reduce the negative impact of gender-based violence. During the postdoc, Hsiu-Fen has examined risk factors of intimate partner homicides and expanded her research interests on homicide prevention through interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration. She has presented and published her work at national conferences and peer-review journals. Her research areas include identifying financial risk factors of intimate partner homicide, evaluating economic empowerment for survivors of intimate partner violence, creating culturally competent prevention measures, and improving screening and assessment for immigrant and non-English speaking populations. Hsiu-Fen incorporates her research results into evidence-based practices that communities can use to guide the development of interventions for IPV and IPH prevention. She is the recipient of the 2022-2024 Academy on Violence and Abuse scholars. She is a licensed social worker in Taiwan and New Jersey and has been certified in MSW Aging and Health at Rutgers University, and Financial Social Work. Hsiu-Fen embraces inclusive pedagogy in any social work courses she teaches at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She has taught courses on domestic violence, IPV risk assessment, research methods, policies on violence against women and children, and human behaviors in the social environment.
