Kworweinski Lafontant, a third-year kinesiology Ph.D. candidate, has been elected to serve as a student trustee on the Board of Trustees for the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

The Board of Trustees of ACSM serves as the organization’s governing body, setting strategic direction, approving major initiatives and policies and providing oversight of its programs, finances and operations. Trustees work with leadership and committees to guide priorities that advance ACSM’s mission to improve health through science, education and practice. As a student trustee, Lafontant will join this leadership group representing member interests and helping shape future initiatives.

A seven-year ACSM member, Kworweinski hopes to increase student engagement by expanding opportunities for research, conference participation and professional development, helping cultivate the next generation of sports medicine and exercise science professionals.

Lafontant’s research focuses on improving human health across the lifespan through exercise, nutrition and bioimpedance-based screenings. Since beginning his doctoral studies, he has published more than 19 peer-reviewed papers in journals including Sensors, Frontiers in Medicine, Clinical Interventions in Aging and JMIR Aging. He has also delivered more than 30 presentations at national and international conferences on sports medicine, nutrition and aging.

Outside the lab, Lafontant teaches undergraduate kinesiology courses and mentors undergraduate students, guiding two students to first-author publications while supporting others as co-authors. His community service reflects a similar commitment, with volunteer work focused on addressing food insecurity and homelessness in the Orlando community.

His recent honors include the American Kinesiology Association Graduate Student Writing Award, the UCF Research Week Graduate Presentation Award and the UCF Order of Pegasus, UCF’s highest student honor for academic achievement, leadership and service.
