Rowing Ergometer Reliability in Jiu Jitsu Practitioners

Rowing Ergometer Reliability in Jiu Jitsu Practitioners

The purpose of this study is to assess the reliability of performance variables during a repeated interval anaerobic rowing protocol. Additionally, we will evaluate potential performance differences between jiu jitsu and non-jiu jitsu practitioners for measures such as handgrip strength, countermovement jump variables, and isometric mid-thigh pull variables.

This study will consist of two parts. All participants will complete part 1 consisting of 4 visits. Jiu jitsu practitioners will be invited back for part 2 consisting of 1 additional visit. Each visit will take approximately 30-60 minutes to complete. Visit 1 will consist of an informed consent and completion of three questionnaires. Visit 2 will consist of anthropometrics (height, weight, and body composition), test familiarization, and a 6-minute rowing test. Visit 3 and 4 will consist of the repeated interval anaerobic rowing protocol with assessments of handgrip strength, countermovement jump variables, and isometric mid-thigh pull variables before and immediately after the protocol. Jiu jitsu practitioners will be invited back for a 5th visit consisting of the Jiu Jitsu Anaerobic Performance Test with assessments of handgrip strength, countermovement jump variables, and isometric mid-thigh pull variables before and immediately after the test.

Visits 2-5 will be separated by at least 48 hours.
