CHPS RESEARCH STUDIES

Use of Functional Testing by Clinicians, Healthcare Providers, and Students in Healthcare/Exercise Science Focused Programs

The purpose of this survey study is to better understand how clinicians, practitioners, other healthcare providers, or students pursuing a healthcare or sport science-related degree are utilizing functional testing with their patients and/or clients, as well what barriers may exist in further utilization of functional testing. Functional testing may be used to identify muscular imbalances, compensatory movement patterns, and injury risk factors, often during pre-participation screenings, rehabilitation progress assessments, and return-to-play decision-making. Some common examples of functional testing include the Functional Movement Screen, Athletic Ability Assessment, Star Excursion Balance Test, Y-Balance Test, and Landing Error Scoring System.

The survey will be conducted through Qualtrics and can be taken on your personal computer or phone at any place or time. You will be asked questions about your demographic and professional background, your clinical practice, and your experiences using functional testing with your patients and/or clients. You can expect to spend 10 minutes or less on the survey as it mostly consists of multiple-choice questions and some open-ended questions.

Inclusion Qualifications:

You must be 18 years of age or older and be a healthcare provider, clinician, practitioner (e.g., athletic trainer, physical therapist, physician, physiotherapist, sport scientist, strength and conditioning coach), or a student in a healthcare or sport science-related program that could administer functional testing with patients/clients/athletes to take part in this research study.
