Family Treatment Court Experiences and Treatment Retention

Purpose of the study:
We would like to learn whether participants continue accessing substance use disorder and mental health treatment after leaving family treatment court and, if so, for how long.

We would like to learn:

  • Whether participants continue accessing substance use disorder and mental health treatment after leaving Family Treatment Court.
  • How long do participants continue receiving these services.
  • Barriers and supports that affect access to treatment.
  • The best ways to stay in contact with former participants and learn about their treatment experiences over time.

Why am I being invited to take part in this study?
You are being invited to take part in this study because you have participated in family treatment court and have recently exited the program.

How long will the research take and what will I need to do?
Participants will be asked to complete three surveys online or by telephone. The first survey will be completed within 30 days of leaving family treatment court. The second survey will be completed approximately 3 months later, and the third survey will be completed approximately 6 months after the second survey.

Each survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete, for a total participation time of about 30 minutes.

Participants will be offered a $20 electronic Walmart gift card for each completed survey. Participation is voluntary and you may withdraw from the study at any time.

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Must speak English
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have graduated from or stopped attending family treatment court (DDC) in Florida within the last 30 days
  • Must live in the US
