Student Spotlight: Savannah Adams, Health Sciences

This image is titled, Student Spotlight. The spotlight highlights Health Sciences student Savannah Adams. The image indicates that Savannah is a patient support volunteer for Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation. A quote from Savannah says, “The most important thing for future healthcare workers is to demonstrate compassion.” There is a photo of Savannah smiling as she caresses her cat.

Savannah Adams, a Health Sciences major, is living proof that, as she says, “If it doesn’t kill you, it makes you stronger.” During her junior year at UCF, Savannah started experiencing severe headaches. Attributed to stress and anxiety by the first doctor she saw, Savannah sought the expertise of physicians at the UCF Student Health Services. She is forever grateful to them for listening to her and referring her to a neurologist who, after several tests, identified the problem as a buildup of pressure in the brain due to fluid accumulation. Despite undergoing surgery to place a shunt in her brain and the lifestyle adjustments she’s had to make, Savannah forged on and will be part of the Spring 2024 graduating class.

Interested in pursuing a career in health since the 9th grade, Savannah says the health sciences courses she took, her experiences as a patient care technician during Covid and a cancer center volunteer, and her own health experience have been instrumental in preparing her for her goal of becoming a physician. “I’ve learned the importance of research and asking the right questions, thinking critically, and demonstrating compassion and caring. I also realized how important it is to volunteer because it helps you see if the work is something you want to do.”
