For Health Sciences major, Keidy Bello, jumping at opportunities and using your resources is a mantra she follows and recommends as a way to learn, grow, and derive motivation and fulfillment. Sometimes it even leads to unexpected ventures.
“I started as a volunteer teaching assistant for anatomy lab, which I loved, and now I’m privileged to have a paid position and teach my own labs. I love teaching and want to incorporate it into my role as a future physician,” says Keidy.
Keidy’s introduction to research was sparked by her decision to participate in the UCF Summer Research Academy. “I didn’t have a clue that it even existed,” says Keidy, “but through my involvement I landed a position working with a research team and now I’m conducting my own research project.” Keidy, who speaks fluent Spanish, conducted phone interviews with Spanish-speaking research participants. It was one of her encounters that solidified her goal of becoming a physician. “It made me realize that healthcare is something I want to do because too many people fly under the radar and are forgotten.”
Keidy also completed the Health Sciences Internship at a facility providing services to individuals with disabilities. She enjoyed the experience so much that she accepted a paid position after her internship.
