The College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS) welcomes a new school this fall with the addition of the School of Global Health Management and Informatics (SGHMI), a move that aligns two key areas of UCF that excel in preparing future healthcare professionals and leaders.
“This is an innovative, forward-looking school that shares our commitment to student success,” says Dean Matthew Theriot. “There is a tremendous potential to build on our collective strengths, create new opportunities for students to learn across disciplines, enhance faculty research collaborations, and for our expanded college to make an even greater impact on the health and well-being of our communities.”
SGHMI prepares students for careers managing and leading complex healthcare systems by developing expertise in health data, technology and administration. The school, which has almost 40 faculty and staff and an enrollment of 1,100 students, was previously part of the College of Community Innovation and Education.
The transition is expected to bring new interprofessional education initiatives, research connections and expanded community partnerships. CHPS is a leader in health education, research, clinical practice and service, and is home to nationally recognized degree programs which include health sciences, athletic training, physical therapy, kinesiology, social work and communication sciences and disorders.
SGHMI is closely connected with both the healthcare industry and its leaders, and graduates enjoy high employment rates. Faculty are at the forefront of digital, aging, and policy-driven health research and work to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare systems. The school partners with hospitals, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and private industry to solve healthcare issues in the U.S. and abroad.
The SGHMI offers undergraduate degrees in health informatics, health information management, and health services administration as well as graduate degrees in health services administration and health care informatics. The degree programs provide pathways to 11 different professional certifications, ensuring that students are both prepared and strategically positioned to enter the workforce.
Students enjoy a rich experience that includes internship opportunities, professional memberships and a signature case competition in which they develop and present solutions to a real-world health system challenge. The school is housed at UCF Downtown and offers classes on both the main and downtown campuses.
