Michael Rovito’s tireless efforts on behalf of men’s health earned him national honors last week at the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting in Denver.
The assistant professor of health sciences received the inaugural award for Excellence in Men’s Health Community Outreach and Research from the APHA’s Men’s Health Caucus, one of 18 specialized groups within the APHA.
Chair Steve Petty presented the award at the Men’s Health Caucus reception, where he commended Rovito for his “outstanding scholarship and service to promote the health of men and boys.” Tops scholars and advocates in the field were in attendance.
As a faculty researcher, Rovito specializes in testicular self-examination and testicular cancer, male health behavioral change, intervention and instrumentation design, and health communication. He is currently working on creating original curricula and outcome assessments focusing on adolescent and young adult males.
The Men’s Health Caucus also appointed Rovito as the group’s 2016-18 policy officer. In this role he will spearhead advocacy efforts to promote the drafting and adoption of national and international men’s health policy initiatives.
Approximately 15,000 scholars, practitioners and students attended the APHA’s annual meeting this year.
