The College of Health Professions and Sciences very own Brooke Johnson was awarded the Distinguished Student Award at the 2024 Shining Knights Alumni Awards. Johnson, a kinesiology major, was honored by university leaders at the ceremony on Oct. 24 in the Pegasus Grand Ballroom.

Johnson was one of just 11 individuals recognized at the event, which is held annually to celebrate the excellence and remarkable accomplishments by the members of Knight Nation. To be eligible for the Distinguished Student Award, nominees must exhibit exceptional dedication to both their relationship with UCF and the UCF community while also maintaining outstanding academic accomplishments.

Johnson is no stranger to Knight Nation. She continues to live her family’s legacy after her mother graduated from the university in 1992. Johnson says she’s been a Knights fan long before her enrollment as her mother took her to UCF football games throughout her childhood.

As a UCF student, Johnson has been involved in several UCF-affiliated groups and programs, like U-LEAD through the LEAD Scholars. Last year, Johnson was a member of the Homecoming Court, and has helped support other students by serving as a PeerKnight and a 4EverKnight.

“Seldom have I found a student professional as diligent in pursuit of their education goals, as conscientious in their personal life and as dedicated to their academic and professional responsibilities as Ms. Johnson,” says Julie Kephart, assistant director for academic advocacy.

Johnson hopes to become a double Knight by finishing her bachelor’s in kinesiology and pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy at UCF.

“This university has been a part of my life since I was born and it is even more special to me now that I have been able to leave my legacy as a Shining Knight in my senior year,” Johnson says. “Winning this award has meant the world to me and I am so grateful to be able to represent the best university in the world.”
