Agreement Among Resting Metabolic Rate Assessments within Resistance Trained Females

Kinesiology Deadline: May 3, 2025 None

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Are a healthy female between the ages of 18-40 years old.
  • Are healthy as determined by the PAR-Q+. Medical History Questionnaire, and the Menstrual Status Questionnaire.
  • Are currently resistance training for a minimum of 6 months as defined by 3 resistance training sessions per week with at least one lower body session.
  • Are premenopausal, with an identifiable onset of menses (early follicular phase).
  • Are currently not pregnant and do not intend to become pregnant.
  • Are willing to adhere to all pre-testing visit instructions including fasting for at least 8 hours and abstaining from exercise, alcohol, and caffeine for at least 24 hours prior to each testing visit.

Response to Moderate and High Isoinertial Loading Paradigms

Kinesiology Deadline: Mar 1, 2024 None

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Healthy resistance trained males (18-40 years old)
  • Have a smart phone or computer with internet access to use with an application the study will provide.
  • Healthy, and ready for physical activity as determined by the PAR-Q+, and MHQ.
  • Participants will be required to be recreationally active
  • Active resistance training for a minimum of 6 months as defined by 3 resistance training sessions per week with at least one lower body session.
  • Willing to follow specific dietary requirements.
  • Consuming <300 mg·day−1 (Equivalent to 3 cups of coffee per day or 2 16oz cans of Redbull) and willing to keep their caffeine consumption consistent throughout the duration of the study.
  • Informed of the study procedures and provided written informed consent to participate in the study.
  • Free from previous or current lower body injuries that are viewed by the investigators to potentially limit ability of the participant to perform the assessments.
  • Willing to abstain from lower body resistance training for the 14 days preceding ET1 and ET2

CREW (Creatine and Resistance Exercise in Women)

Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology & Rehabilitation Science Deadline: Jan 7, 2024 Paid

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Are female between the ages of 18 to 35
  • Recreationally active, defined as meeting the ACSM standards for recreationally active individuals of participating in physical activity ≥ 150 minutes exercise/week.
  • Not following a resistance training program
  • Are Not currently taking creatine monohydrate or have not taken it in the last 6 weeks
  • No known cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, muscular, and/or coronary heart disease (i.e. heart failure, diabetes, COPD, etc.)
  • Do not regularly use prescription medication (not including contraceptives)
  • Are not currently seeking medical care.
  • Are not currently pregnant.

The Effects of Blood Flow Restriction on Aerobic and Muscular Function

Athletic Training, Health Sciences, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Exercise Physiology & Rehabilitation Science Deadline: Dec 16, 2023 None

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • 18-35 year old aerobically trained males or females (defined as an average of 150 minutes or more of moderate to vigorous aerobic activity per week for the past six months).
  • Willing to come for all four visits.

Exercise Thresholds

Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology & Rehabilitation Science Deadline: Dec 31, 2023 None

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Are ages 18-50
  • Aerobically trained males and females (an average of 150 or more minutes of moderate to vigorous aerobic running or cycling per week for the past 6 months)
  • Are willing to come in for all testing visits
  • No known cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, muscular, and/or coronary heart disease
  • No current injury that would limit the ability to exercise on a stationary bike
  • Do not regularly use prescription medication other than birth control
  • Are not seeking medical care for a condition that would alter the response to exercise
  • Not currently pregnant

Acute Effects of Resistance Exercise Among Individuals with MS

Athletic Training, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Exercise Physiology & Rehabilitation Science Deadline: Jan 31, 2024 Paid

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Individual between the ages of 18 to 58
  • Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis
  • Are able to walk 10 meters without assistance
  • Are willing to come in for all 4 visits
  • No other known cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, muscular, and/or coronary heart disease
  • No Multiple Sclerosis relapse in the past 30 days
  • Are not currently undergoing a rehabilitation protocol
  • Are not currently seeking medical care for a chronic condition that could limit exercise capacity other than multiple sclerosis
  • Are not currently pregnant
