Evaluating Multi-Gesture Electromyographic Control for Prosthesis
This research is being done to help our team explore using video games for training future users to use a multi-gesture prosthetic arm. Understanding how the general population first interacts with the game may benefit future patients receiving a prosthetic. The tablet-based game you will play for this study aims to teach future prosthesis users how to differentiate between zones corresponding to unique prosthesis gestures using the same electromyographic (EMG) technology.
If you agree to participate, you will first begin a Qualtrics survey. You will complete initial survey questions, perform a gamified portion*, a grip strength portion, and final survey questions.
*The gamified portion consists of wearing a surface EMG controller attached with velcro around your arm. The controller reads the strength that you contract your arm muscles.
Inclusion Qualifications:
- Between the age of 18 – 64 and able to consent
- Have full control of your upper extremities
- Have not had an injury to your hands or arms that would currently hinder your ability to control your upper extremities
- Have never used a Limbitless Solutions myoelectric prosthesis OR flex controller
Exclusion Qualifications:
You may not participate in this research opportunity if any of the following applies to you:- Adults unable to consent
- Individuals who do not have full bilateral control of their upper extremities
- Individuals with limited muscle contraction in their arms
- Individuals with injury or condition that prevents safe and full contraction in both arms or hands
- Individuals who are not yet adults (under 18), pregnant women, and prisoners will be excluded from the study to uphold the safeguards for these vulnerable populations
Participate in this Research
Submitting this form will put you in contact with the main point of contact for this project. They will provide more information and determine if you meet all of the qualifications needed."*" indicates required fields
