For Priscilla Torres-Theobald, UCF was the ideal place to pursue a career in health. Initially interested in becoming a physician, Priscilla also considered nursing and physical therapy before finding her path in Health Sciences. “I really enjoyed the courses I took in Health Sciences, but I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do when I graduated,” she recalls.
Now, as the Executive Director of Harmony Healthcare Orlando, a nonprofit offering services like HIV testing and treatment, STI testing and treatment, hepatitis C medical care, primary care, women’s wellness, and gender-affirming care, Priscilla frequently draws on her UCF education. “Having a strong clinical background as an administrator allows you to break down barriers for patients and providers,” she says.
Running the day-to-day operations at Harmony Healthcare Orlando, Priscilla has seen the profound impact of small kindnesses and ancillary services. “Healthcare is not just about caring for the physical body; it includes mental and emotional well-being, food security, and much more. You don’t have to be a physician to positively impact health.”
Priscilla’s advice to students entering the job market is, “Take your time, be patient, and do your due diligence in researching prospective companies and organizations.”
