For Jason Gagnier, UCF provided some of the greatest experiences of his life. Among them was an opportunity to complete an internship in a clinical setting through the Health Sciences Internship course (HSC4943). Like many students, Jason was hesitant to take advantage of the many opportunities offered at UCF, but the return on investment of taking that first step out of his comfort zone has made a lasting impact. “The internship experience pushed me to my path and made me the person I am today,” says Jason.
Completing his internship at the Foot and Ankle Sports Medicine Institute (FASMI), Jason was exposed to many aspects of medical practice, as well as the business side of medicine. “This really helped me understand all aspects of what it means to be a physician,” noted Jason. “I also had the opportunity to get my license as an X-ray technician, and I was offered a position with the FASMI after graduating. I’m certain that the internship and work experience played pivotal roles in being accepted to Howard University College of Medicine.”
Among the many lessons Jason carries from this experience, the most impactful is his mentor’s remarkable work ethic and the strong bonds his mentor has with his patients. “That’s the physician I want to be,” says Jason.
