The Duration of Effects of Massage in Healthy Participants

We are conducting a study of healthy participants to investigate the response to massage. As part of the research, you will complete questionnaires, have your pain sensitivity to pressure and pinprick tested, and receive a massage to your upper back. Eligible participants will attend 1 research session that lasts approximately 45 minutes.

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Pain Free
  • 18-60 years old

Exclusion Qualifications:

You may not participate in this research opportunity if any of the following applies to you:
  • Systemic medical conditions that affect sensation, such as diabetes
  • Regularly using prescription medication to manage pain
  • Have any chronic pain conditions
  • Currently taking blood thinning medications
  • Have a blood clotting disorder, such as hemophilia
  • Have any conditions that do not allow you to inflate a blood pressure cuff on your arm, such as: lymphedema or arterial/venous lines
  • Have any contraindications to elevating the arm above the head or exercising the arm with a light weight, such as a recent surgery or fracture
