Sensitivity of Indirect Markers of Muscle and Tendon Damage Following Eccentric Plantar Flexor Exercise
This study aims to understand changes in indirect markers of muscle damage as well as differences in Achilles tendon length and thickness following eccentric plantar flexor exercises. It also aims to identify the total amount of protein consumed daily, protein from animal sources only, protein from vegan sources and the effect on indirect markers of muscle damage.
We expect that you will be in this research study for approximately 1-2 weeks. There will be 5 visits total. Visit 1 will take approximately 30 minutes to complete and Visit 2 will take approximately 120 minutes to complete, and visits 3, 4, and 5 will take approximately 45 minutes to complete.
During each of the visits (except for visit 1), you will complete several exercise tests, have calf and Achilles tendon measurements taken, and have your mechanical tissue and Achilles tendon properties assessed. The testing procedures for visits 3, 4, and 5 will be the same. Visit 2 includes testing procedure (identical to visits 3, 4, and 5) before and after the exercise intervention in addition to an exercise intervention. Visit 1 includes informed consent and a couple of questionnaires.
