Physical activity and periodontal disease in U.S. college students
This research is being done to better understand how physical activity might affect gum health in college students. Young adults often experience changes in stress, exercise habits, and oral hygiene routines that could increase their risk for gum disease. By learning more about these connections, we hope to help improve health education and preventive care for students like you.
What does participation involve?
You will be asked to attend one study visit where we will measure your height, weight, and body composition, and have you complete a set of online questionnaires about your stress levels, oral hygiene knowledge, and gum health. Afterward, you will be given a wrist-worn activity monitor to wear for seven days, which will track your physical activity. At the end of the week, you will return the device to complete your participation.
Inclusion Qualifications:
- Age 18 to 30 years
- Enrolled as a student at UCF
- Not currently pregnant
- Willing to wear an accelerometer (like a wrist watch) for seven days
Exclusion Qualifications:
You may not participate in this research opportunity if any of the following applies to you:- Limitations to walking or physical activity due to an injury or chronic illness
