Describing Body Composition and Dietary Practices Among High Intensity Functional Training Athletes

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • We invite you to take part in a research study because you meet the following eligibility/inclusion and exclusion criteria. Specifically, you…
    • Are either a male or female adult who is 18 years old or older.
    • Have at least 6 months of training experience with High Intensity Functional Training (HIFT), CrossFit®, or CrossFit® -style workouts.
    • Are metabolically healthy, not including obesity, as determined by the Health History Questionnaire (HHQ).
    • Are not currently pregnant (self-reported) and do not intend to become pregnant during the duration of the study (self-reported).
    • Do not have any body modifications (e.g., breast augmentation, implants of any kind, etc.) and/or permanent jewelry.
    • Do not have surgical implantation to support bone structure (e.g., metal pins, screws, rods, etc.) or organ function (e.g., AED, pacemaker, etc.).
    • Do not have any missing limbs on the upper or lower body.
    • Are not currently taking any medications that may alter/affect body composition characteristics (e.g., antidiuretics).

Comparing the Effects of Yoga Nidra to Yoga Nidra with Pain Acceptance Intention and Motor Imagery on Pain Outcomes

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • 18-75 years old
  • Chronic pain in the neck, low back, shoulder, hip, elbow, knee, wrist, or ankle that has lasted for over three months
  • Pain intensity rated as 3/10 or higher in the past 24 hours

Dynavision Cross-Training

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Are male or female between the ages of 18-40 years old.
  • Are healthy and ready for physical activity as determined by the Physical Activity
  • Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) and the Medical Health History Questionnaire (MHQ).
  • Are recreationally active (defined according to ACSM standards of at least 150 minutes exercise per week)
  • Are willing to abstain from dietary supplementation that are viewed by study investigators to confound the outcomes of the study such as phosphatidylserine, Ginkgo biloba extract, and tyrosine.
  • Reported habitual caffeine consumption <300 mg·day−1 via completion of a brief, caffeine habits chart.
  • No previous experience on the Dynavision D2 Mode B or Mode A Assessment.
  • Are not taking any performance enhancing drugs.
  • Are not taking prescription or over the counter medications which might affect your performance in the assessment sessions.
  • Are not pregnant and do not intend to become pregnant.
  • Have no chronic illness requiring medical attention.
  • Have no visual impairments that would interfere with study participation, or impairment correctable with corrective lenses

The Impact of Strength Training Volume in Older Adults

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Older adult ages 60 years or older
  • BMI between ≥18.5 kg/m2 and ≤35.0 kg/m2
  • Able to consume whey protein everyday
  • Willing to not consume alcoholic beverages at certain times during the study
  • You do not have any deteriorating health-related conditions, diseases, or previous injuries that may prevent you from engaging in a lower-body Strength training program based on an initial screening conversation

Impact of the Menstrual Cycle on Recovery from Resistance Exercise

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • A female between the ages of 18-40 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds.
  • Healthy and ready for physical activity as determined by questionnaires you complete about your health status.
  • Currently resistance training and have trained for a minimum of 6 months. To be included, you must have completed 3 resistance training sessions (defined as muscle strengthening activities such as free weights, weight machines, or calisthenics, etc.) per week with at least one lower body session. This will be determined by a Training History Questionnaire (THQ).
  • Premenopausal, with a regular menstrual period as determined by the menstrual status questionnaire.
  • Not currently or have not used hormonal birth control or intrauterine devices in the past three months (or three full menstrual cycles). The acceptable methods of birth control include barriers (like condoms), tubal ligation, and abstinence.
  • Know the approximate dates of your last 6 menstrual cycle starts (onset of menses). We will collect this information from you after you have agreed to take part in this research study and sign this informed consent form.
  • Currently not pregnant and do not intend to become pregnant. We will ask you to verbally confirm your pregnancy status.
  • Willing to adhere to all pre-testing visit instructions including abstaining from exercise, alcohol, and caffeine consumption prior to each testing visit for which it is required.
  • Free from previous or current lower body injuries that may limit your ability to complete either exercise or physical assessments.
  • Highly likely to be successful at providing the required blood samples. This will be determined during today’s visit by a certified phlebotomist.
  • Not regularly taking any type of prescription or over-the-counter medication which might affect the assessments, or having any chronic illnesses, which require medical care.
  • This will be determined in your medical history questionnaire.

Optimal Repetition Scheme for Neuromuscular Function with Low-Load Blood Flow Restriction

  • Are willing to come in for all five visits

The Effects of Resveratrol Supplementation on Responses to an Isoinertial Squat Protocol

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Are a healthy male (as determined by the PAR Q+ and MHQ forms) between the ages of 18-40 years old,
  • Are currently participating in at least 150 minutes of combined physical activity per week
  • Are currently resistance training at least 3 times a week with at least one of those sessions being a lower body session
  • Have been resistance training for at least 6 months
  • Are currently not using any performance enhancing drugs
  • Have not used nicotine or tobacco in any form (ex. cigarettes, cigars, vapes, ZYNs, etc.) for the last 3 months and are willing to refrain for use for the duration of the study
  • Are currently not taking and have not taken any nutritional supplements within the last 28-days that the investigators perceive could confound the results of the study
  • If you are currently taking any nutritional supplement(ex. Creatine or beta-alanine, you are willing to refrain from consumption of the supplement for a 28-day period prior to continuing enrollment in the study
  • Are willing to refrain from the consumption of bananas and non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for the entirety of your enrollment in the study
  • Currently consume < 300mg of caffeine daily (≤ three 8oz cups of coffee or two 16oz redbulls) per day on average.
  • Are willing to keep your consumption of caffeine consistent throughout the study duration
  • You will be required to have access to the online MyFitnessPal application either via cellphone or computer and be willing to download and maintain the application for the duration of the study.
  • Are willing to track your food and beverage consumption in its entirety for two separate 5-day dietary log periods and are willing to replicate your food and beverage consumption during these periods to the best of your ability
  • Are free from previous or current lower-body injuries that may limit your ability to complete the study’s assessments based on your responses on the MHQ
  • Are willing to refrain from any lower-body resistance training for the 14-days before each experimental trial (visit 6 and visit 10) (28 days total)
  • Are willing to undergo a blood collection procedure that will draw a small amount (8ml) of blood from your forearm vein (completed by a trained phlebotomist)
  • Have no chronic illnesses (ex. diabetes, atherosclerosis, osteo-arthritis, etc.) requiring ongoing medical attention
  • Have no food allergies that would restrict you from ingesting one of the two provided energy bars.
