Meditation and Social Work in Taiwan

Experience Taiwan while Earning Credits towards Your Degree

This study abroad program allows students to experience Taiwan while earning credits toward their degree during the summer. Students register for the UCF course, and then travel with their professor for their global experience in Taiwan.

In addition to learning the course content, students learn from and interact with local experts through site visit and guest lectures. The program also includes cultural excursions to fully embrace the study abroad experience. Studying abroad in Taiwan offers students invaluable experiences that will greatly enhance students’ academic, personal and professional growth.

SOW4955/SOW5957 Meditation and Social Work in Taiwan

This 3-credit course introduces the development of meditation and social work in Taiwan, and provide opportunities for students to explore comparative perspectives on social work practice between Taiwan and the United States, drawing on the academic literature, research initiatives, and site visits to local agencies and communities. It allows students to integrate a global perspective in social work practice with diverse populations, increase exposure to international social work, and assess how personal experiences and cultural values influence our interactions with and understanding of others.

The course also includes academic and experiential learning activities in Taiwan such as visit to social enterprises, community service centers, nonprofit agencies, and exchange with social work students and faculty at local higher education institutions, etc.
