The Impact of Strength Training Volume in Older Adults

Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology & Rehabilitation Science Deadline: Mar 1, 2025 Paid

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Older adult ages 60 years or older
  • BMI between ≥18.5 kg/m2 and ≤35.0 kg/m2
  • Able to consume whey protein everyday
  • Willing to not consume alcoholic beverages at certain times during the study
  • You do not have any deteriorating health-related conditions, diseases, or previous injuries that may prevent you from engaging in a lower-body Strength training program based on an initial screening conversation

Impact of the Menstrual Cycle on Recovery from Resistance Exercise

Athletic Training, Health Sciences, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Exercise Physiology & Rehabilitation Science Deadline: May 31, 2025 None

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • A female between the ages of 18-40 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds.
  • Healthy and ready for physical activity as determined by questionnaires you complete about your health status.
  • Currently resistance training and have trained for a minimum of 6 months. To be included, you must have completed 3 resistance training sessions (defined as muscle strengthening activities such as free weights, weight machines, or calisthenics, etc.) per week with at least one lower body session. This will be determined by a Training History Questionnaire (THQ).
  • Premenopausal, with a regular menstrual period as determined by the menstrual status questionnaire.
  • Not currently or have not used hormonal birth control or intrauterine devices in the past three months (or three full menstrual cycles). The acceptable methods of birth control include barriers (like condoms), tubal ligation, and abstinence.
  • Know the approximate dates of your last 6 menstrual cycle starts (onset of menses). We will collect this information from you after you have agreed to take part in this research study and sign this informed consent form.
  • Currently not pregnant and do not intend to become pregnant. We will ask you to verbally confirm your pregnancy status.
  • Willing to adhere to all pre-testing visit instructions including abstaining from exercise, alcohol, and caffeine consumption prior to each testing visit for which it is required.
  • Free from previous or current lower body injuries that may limit your ability to complete either exercise or physical assessments.
  • Highly likely to be successful at providing the required blood samples. This will be determined during today’s visit by a certified phlebotomist.
  • Not regularly taking any type of prescription or over-the-counter medication which might affect the assessments, or having any chronic illnesses, which require medical care.
  • This will be determined in your medical history questionnaire.

Reliability of Functional Movement Screen and Core Exercise Movement Patterns Scoring Systems
