Pain Perception after Back Extension on a Roman Chair
The purpose of this study is to examine changes in heat pain threshold and pressure pain threshold after back extensions on a 45 degree roman chair and quiet rest. We expect that you will be in this research study for two visits. Visit one will be about 1 hour and visit two will take about 1 hour. We estimate testing will take two hours in total. You will be asked to undergo testing that includes screening for eligibility, pain sensitivity testing, completing a demographic questionnaire, force production of, and performing one set of back extension to exhaustion.
Inclusion Qualifications:
- Male or female between 18-50 years old
- Not currently experiencing musculoskeletal pain or injury
Exclusion Qualifications:
You may not participate in this research opportunity if any of the following applies to you:- Non-English speaking
- Medical conditions that affect your ability to feel light touch, pressure, heat, and cold, such as uncontrolled diabetes
- History of low back surgery or fracture within the past 6 months
- History of a chronic pain condition, such as fibromyalgia
- Taking blood thinning medications
- Known presence of cardiovascular, pulmonary, or metabolic disease
- Current use of tobacco products
- Not physically ready to exercise without a medical exam as indicated by the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire Plus (PAR-Q+)
- Exceed safety threshold for pressure and heat pain threshold (examined during screening)
- Currently pregnant
