Grip Strength and Brain Stimulation Study For Older Adults

Maximal grip strength is considered a biomarker of healthy brain aging among older adults. With this, little has been done to analyze how the brain influences muscle activity during a grip strength test. This research is being done to better understand how your brain controls your gripping muscles during grip strength tests, with the goal of comparing these measures between older adults who have strong and weak grip strength. We are also looking to explore a new targeted brain stimulation protocol to influence grip strength performance among older adults. This study will help UCF researchers understand the neuromuscular underpinnings of grip strength performance and investigate the extent to which grip strength can be influenced by the isolated brain intervention protocol.

Inclusion Qualifications:

  • Healthy adult aged ≥ 60 years , with a body mass index between 5-35.0 kg/m2.
  • Willingness to comply with exercise, caffeine, and alcohol requirements.
  • Willingness to perform maximal grip strength testing
  • Have no other major underlying health concerns and circumstances as described in the pre-enrollment health screen administered before enrollment.
