Violette Gibbs is a doctoral student in Kinesiology under the mentorship of Dr. Abigail Anderson in the Rehabilitation and Modulation of Pain (RAMP) Laboratory. She earned her B.S. in Biology and M.S. in Kinesiology from UCF, where she concentrated on sports nutrition, pain, and rehabilitation. Her professional path as a wellness practitioner shifted after a life-changing accident that resulted in a permanent injury, motivating her to pursue innovative strategies in rehabilitation and chronic pain management.
She is a licensed massage therapist, a certified sports nutritionist through the International Society of Sports Nutrition, and an E-RYT500 registered yoga instructor and teacher trainer through Yoga Alliance. Violette also teaches anatomy and physiology in yoga teacher training programs and maintains her teaching practice in Central Florida, offering workshops in Yoga Nidra, meditation, anatomy, and physiology. She is the co-creator of Oyster Storytelling Yoga, a National Science Foundation–funded program that blends yoga, science, and storytelling to teach children and adults about oysters and estuarine ecosystems. Since its inception, the program has been offered in more than 400 schools, institutions, and marine conservatories nationwide.
Violette’s research focuses on mind-body interventions for individuals with chronic pain and strategies for post-rehabilitation pain management. Her current work employs a multimodal approach that integrates yoga, pain neuroscience education, and relaxation techniques, assessed through both self-report measures and quantitative sensory testing to explore sensory function and the mechanisms that shape pain perception and modulation.
She has authored peer-reviewed publications and teaches Personal Fitness and Wellness, where she inspires students to integrate multiple components of wellness into lifelong health practices.
