Collaboration in Autism, Literacy, and Health Care

A UCF Communication Sciences and Disorders and Health Sciences Collaboration

Embark on a transformative study abroad experience in Jamaica! This hands-on course offers Communication Sciences and Disorders and Health Sciences students the unique opportunity to work directly with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Jamaican communities.

You will apply evidence-based strategies to support the development of early language and literacy skills—developing foundational print concepts, phonological awareness, vocabulary, and communication skills— while making a meaningful impact on children’s learning. In this interprofessional program, collaborate with educators and healthcare professionals at the University of the West Indies and gain practical experience from licensed clinicians as you deliver tailored literacy interventions for young children with autism.
