CHPS RESEARCH STUDIES

Sexual Violence and Involuntary Admission

The purpose of this research is to understand the experiences and perceptions of sexual violence survivors who have been involuntarily hospitalized due to sexual trauma-related mental health impacts. The study aims to explore how involuntary hospitalization affects survivors’ sense of autonomy and trust in the mental health system.

You will be asked to complete a screener survey to determine eligibility that will take about 5 minutes. If you are eligible, you will be asked questions about your perceptions and experiences relating to your involuntary hospitalization. The survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

You must be 18 years of age or older, have experienced sexual violence, and have been involuntarily hospitalized due to
the impacts of that experience. There is no compensation for participating in this study.

Your participation in this study is voluntary. You are free to withdraw your consent and discontinue participation in this study at any time without prejudice or penalty. Your decision to participate or not participate in this study will in no way affect your relationship with UCF, including continued enrollment, grades, employment or your relationship with the individuals who may have an interest in this study.

All information you provide will be kept confidential and will not be seen by anyone other than the investigators listed above at UCF. All data collected will be kept in password-protected databases and will be stored for a minimum of 5 years after study closure.
