CHPS RESEARCH STUDIES

Hamstring ultrasound imaging during Nordic Hamstring Exercise

We invite you to take part in a research study because you are 18-30 years old and are physically active without any history of hamstring injury. You also do not have any current injury that would limit your ability to do physical activity such as kneeling and lowering your body to the ground in a Nordic Hamstring Exercise (NHE).

The purpose of this study is to determine the reliability of hamstring muscle thickness from ultrasound images during movement (NHE) across two laboratory sessions that are 5-7 days apart.

We expect that you will be in this research study for two 1-1.5 hour sessions that are 5-7 days apart. You will be asked to report to the research laboratory for the first and second days of testing, complete questionnaires regarding your demographics, and health history. You will also complete a series of movements, including lying on a table, standing, and doing two sets of 3 repetitions (6 total) of NHEs. An ultrasound probe will be placed on the back of your thigh in two places (towards the inside of your leg and towards the outside of your leg) with an elastic belt during these movements to measure muscle activity throughout the tests. Following testing in the laboratory, you will return for a second visit to complete the same movements with the ultrasound on your thigh.
