CHPS RESEARCH STUDIES
Dual-Task Brain Activity After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction
This research investigates how your nervous system (brain) changes after having undergone an ACLR. We want to compare your brain to someone who has never had an ACLR and compare your performance in clinical tests of strength and hopping. By comparing all of these factors, this research will allow rehabilitation to be better individualized to future patient’s needs after injury. Study participation is solely for research purposes and will not improve your health or treat any medical impairment you may have. The study will hope to improve the scientific understanding to inform future rehabilitation treatments for those with ACLR.
Inclusion Qualifications:
- are between the ages of 18-35 years,
- either have had an anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) surgery or have not had an injury to either of your knees,
- have not been medically diagnosed with a concussion in the previous 6 months,
- have not been medically diagnosed with colorblindness,
- have no known neurological (nervous system) disorder (i.e. Multiple Sclerosis),
- have not taken opioid medication (pain medication) in the last 2 weeks,
- are not pregnant of planning to become present during study participation, and
- have no contraindications to brain MRI (you will complete a screening form).
Exclusion Qualifications:
You may not participate in this research opportunity if any of the following applies to you:- Current infection on lower limb
- Known or diagnosed neuromuscular abnormalities
- History of cardiopulmonary disorder
- History of neurological disorder (e.g., stroke, epilepsy, neuropathy)
