Faculty and Staff

Shabu Varghese, Ph.D., MSW, LCSW, CAP, received his doctorate at the University of Central Florida. He currently serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor, and his research interests include health-related quality of life in chronic end-stage renal disease patients, transportation barriers for dialysis patients, biopsychosocial predictors of kidney transplant applicants, treatment adherence amongst hemodialysis patients, poverty and homelessness in the United States. “As a teacher, I expect the students to get hands-on training and prepare for the clinical social work specialties depending on student’s interest,” says Varghese. His articles have been published in the journal of Poverty & Public Policy and the Journal of Social Service Research, where he is a guest reviewer. Together with teaching, he is pursuing a study on the national kidney transplant waiting list with the United Network for Organ Sharing and the applicant’s biopsychosocial characteristics at a single transplant center and a study on treatment adherence amongst dialysis patients.
