Students work closely under the guidance and support of an approved preceptor who is an expert in the field of kinesiology or exercise science.<\/p>\n<p>In conjunction with the internship experience, students are simultaneously enrolled in the course \u2018APK4926 Undergraduate Internship in Kinesiology\u2019 and are required to complete class assignments as a part of their interactive learning at sites.\u00a0 Students who are completing an internship for course credit are required to both work as a student intern at an approved site and complete required coursework in APK4926 as a part of this learner-centered experience.<\/p>\n<p>Students who wish to complete an internship for college credit with the Division of Kinesiology can apply in their junior or senior year.[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Credit Hours\/Contact Hours:&#8221; The portal will guide students through the necessary documentation, including finding and securing a site.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Students are strongly encouraged to enter the application portal as soon as it opens. Students must submit materials as early in the application cycle as possible.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Students are responsible for securing an internship and are not placed by the Division of Kinesiology. \u00a0The application portal will provide guidance with finding a site that aligns with career goals. css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1696522398581{margin-bottom: 30px !important;}&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students in the Strength and Conditioning Track are required to complete their internship under a preceptor who is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).\u00a0 Since the Division does not place students in experiences, students are encouraged to find a site and preceptor before beginning the application process to ensure a smooth approval process.\u00a0 Students can also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/usreps.org\/registry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">look for CSCS qualified professionals<\/a> in the area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsca.com\/education\/casce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-loopstyle=\"linkonly\">CASCE<\/a> requires<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>a minimum of two substantially different experiences with different preceptors that totals no less than 300 hours.\u00a0 UCF Strength and Conditioning Track students should plan for one 3-credit internship (120hrs) under one preceptor and one 6-credit internship (240hrs) with a different preceptor in different semesters to meet this requirement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strength and Conditioning Required Learning Goals<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During internship, students are required to be assessed by their preceptor on their proficiency in the following key learning areas:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>warm up<\/li>\n<li>flexibility training<\/li>\n<li>exercise technique<\/li>\n<li>spotting<\/li>\n<li>Olympic-style lifting<\/li>\n<li>progressions\/regressions<\/li>\n<li>test selection and administration<\/li>\n<li>program design<\/li>\n<li>speed, agility and plyometric training<\/li>\n<li>anaerobic and aerobic program design<\/li>\n<li>periodization<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][\/vc_section][vc_row el_class=&#8221;height0FIX&#8221;][vc_column][vc_raw_html]JTNDJTJGc2VjdGlvbiUzRSUzQ3NlY3Rpb24lMjBpZCUzRCUyMmNyaXRlcmlhJTIyJTIwY2xhc3MlM0QlMjJhdXRvLXNlY3Rpb24lMjIlMjBkYXRhLXNlY3Rpb24tbGluay10aXRsZSUzRCUyMkNyaXRlcmlhJTIyJTIwcm9sZSUzRCUyMnJlZ2lvbiUyMiUyMGFyaWEtbGFiZWwlM0QlMjJDcml0ZXJpYSUyMiUzRQ==[\/vc_raw_html][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_section full_width=&#8221;stretch_row&#8221; Students are not permitted to complete an internship at a current or past work, volunteer, or internship site.<\/li>\n<li>Be an extension of the classroom as a learning experience that provides for the application of knowledge gained in the classroom and is supported by objectives that are outlined in an official internship manual.
