SPEAK OUT! places emphasis on speaking with intent and converting speech from an automatic function to an intentional act. Together, patients and their speech-language pathologist work through a series of speech, voice and cognitive exercises outlined in the program.<\/p>\n

Upon completion of SPEAK OUT!\u00ae, patients transition to a maintenance program that consists of weekly group sessions led by a SPEAK OUT! trained speech-language pathologist. The SPEAK OUT! exercises are performed, and group members provide support, encouragement, and accountability to one another.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”What is SPEAK OUT!?” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:26px|text_align:left|color:%23000000″ google_fonts=”font_family:Roboto%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C500%2C500italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal” css=”.vc_custom_1709923448905{margin-bottom: 10px !important;}”][vc_column_text]SPEAK OUT! is a speech therapy program for people with Parkinson\u2019s disease and was developed by the Parkinson Voice Project. In this program, patients learn to speak with intent. SPEAK OUT! is usually completed in 12 sessions over four weeks. During the four weeks, clients have reported improvement in their speaking, swallowing, and overall quality of communication.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”When and Where Can I Receive Services?” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:26px|text_align:left|color:%23000000″ google_fonts=”font_family:Roboto%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C500%2C500italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal” css=”.vc_custom_1709923475425{margin-bottom: 10px !important;}”][vc_column_text]Prior to beginning the SPEAK OUT! sessions, an evaluation must be completed. During this evaluation, you will meet with the speech-language pathologist and graduate student clinician(s) who will collect background information, assess your areas of concern, and develop a plan of care to address your goals. You can schedule an evaluation by calling 407-882-0468<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Once your evaluation is complete, you and the speech-language pathologist will decide upon a schedule for your sessions. Currently, sessions are offered in-person and via telehealth.
